Native to the Americas, it has spread globally due to human transportation of infested grain.
The adult Angoumois Grain Moth has a wingspan ranging from 12 to 14 millimeters and is characterized by its long, slender appearance. It is a nocturnal insect that lays its eggs on grains such as corn, wheat, oats, rice, and millet. After hatching, the larvae burrow into the grain kernels, where they feed and develop for about a month. The larvae are small, white, and wormlike, growing up to 9 millimeters in length.
