Joseph Lyons was an Australian politician who served as the tenth Prime Minister of Australia from 1932 to 1939. Born on September 15, 1879, in Stanley, Tasmania, Lyons was a member of the Labor Party before becoming one of the founding members of the United Australia Party (UAP). His political career began when he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly in 1909. He then served as the Premier of Tasmania from 1923 to 1928.
