Purana refers to a genre of ancient Indian texts that are recognized as the religious and cultural epitome of Hinduism. Derived from the Sanskrit word "pura," meaning "ancient" or "old," Puranas are a compilation of traditional myths, legends, genealogies, and histories. These texts are considered to be both religious scriptures and an important part of Indian folklore.
The Puranas primarily focus on the cosmology, legends, and genealogies of Hindu gods, such as Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, their various incarnations, and the stories associated with them.
